Dr. Tull's research broadly focuses on understanding the role of difficulties in emotion regulation (particularly in regard to emotional avoidance) in the development and maintenance of the anxiety disorders, especially PTSD, panic disorder, and generalized anxiety disorder. His current research focuses on examining the emotionally avoidant function of substance use among individuals with PTSD, as well as the negative clinical outcomes associated with the presence of co-occurring PTSD among substance users (including substance abuse treatment drop-out and engagement in HIV-risk behaviors). Dr. Tull currently serves as Principal Investigator on a grant funded by the National Institute on Drug Abuse and Co-Investigator on a grant funded by the National Institute of Mental Health (PI: Kim L. Gratz, PhD).
